Sea Squirt Genome Sequencing: Ciona savignyi
The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) currently supports a project aimed at producing a high quality genomic sequence of the sea squirt Ciona savignyi. The genome was sequenced to 14-fold sequence depth; this high degree of coverage was required to overcome whole genome shotgun assembly challenges posed by a high polymorphism rate.
