Claire Driscoll, M.S.
Director, Technology Transfer Office
Claire Driscoll has served as the Director of the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI)'s Technology Transfer Office (TTO) since 2002. In this capacity Ms. Driscoll is responsible for the overall oversight of the Institute's intramural patent and licensing portfolio, and she advises staff on technology transfer policy and related matters. The TTO also negotiates and manages research collaboration agreements on behalf of NHGRI scientists. From 1999 through 2002 Ms. Driscoll was the Associate Director of NHGRI's Technology Transfer Office. Prior to joining NHGRI Claire spent almost five years as a Senior Technology Development Manager with the NIH's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). Earlier in her career she spent four years working as a biologist in a National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) laboratory at NIH.
Ms. Driscoll has given presentations, primarily on biomedical technology transfer and related intellectual property and licensing topics, at many conferences including Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO)-, Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM)- and Licensing Executives Society (LES)-sponsored events. Currently, Ms. Driscoll serves as a member of: the board of directors of PXE International (a lay patient research advocacy organization); the international advisory council for the Initiative for Open Innovation; and the AUTM annual meeting program committee (chairperson). Education: B.S. and M.S. degrees in Biology from the University of Notre Dame; M.S. degree in Biotechnology Studies from the University of Maryland University College.
Anna Solowiej, Ph.D., J.D.
Technology Transfer Specialist
Anna Solowiej is a Technology Transfer (TTO) Specialist, negotiating various agreements and evaluating intellectual property matters for NHGRI investigators. Prior to joining the TTO, Anna worked as a patent attorney in private practice, specializing in biotechnology patent prosecution. She handled diverse patent portfolios for universities, hospitals, and private companies, developing strategies for technologies related to antibodies, nucleic acids, food products, and medical devices.
Dr. Solowiej also conducted due diligence analyses for validity and freedom-to-operate issues and assisted in litigation matters involving patent infringement and licensing. Anna holds a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Physiology from Yale University and a J.D. from the George Washington University Law School. She is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts, District of Columbia, and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Eggerton Campbell, Ph.D.
Licensing and Patenting Manager
Eggerton Campbell, Ph.D. is a Licensing and Patenting Manager in the Technology Transfer Office at the National Human Genome Research Institute.
Dr. Campbell began his career with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, where he first worked as a patent examiner for four years and was subsequently promoted to a primary patent examiner, a position in which he served for five years. During his tenure there, Dr. Campbell allowed over 400 patents, specializing in a variety of physiological conditions used for nucleic acid detection via hybridization, nucleic acid amplification (PCR), detection of tumors/cancer via mutations, recombinant polypeptides, human genes, and bioinformatics. Dr. Campbell has extensive law firm experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications in a wide variety of biotechnology areas. He holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, supplemented with post-doctoral training at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). He is a patent agent registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Rebecca "Becky" Read is a Management Analyst for the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) at the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI). She joined the Technology Transfer Office as an Administrative Assistant in October 2010. Before starting at NHGRI Becky worked for more than 20 years as a legal secretary for a DC-based international law firm, where she supported attorneys in the areas of international law, aviation, litigation, corporate law, and antitrust, as well as assisted with the coordination of the firm's pro bono practice.
Becky is the point person in the Technology Transfer Office for all administrative and database management-related tasks. Becky is a native of Maryland and she attended both American University and Montgomery College.
