PhenX Real World Sharing and Implementation of the PhenX Toolkit (PhenX RISING)

PhenX Rising, Real-world, Implementation, and Sharing

Background

With the success of the development of the PhenX Toolkit (covers 21 research domains and includes 295 measures), NHGRI wanted to catalyze adoption of PhenX measures into ongoing genomic studies. This would allow for rapid feedback on the value of the resource including gaps in measures, ease of use, and overall usefulness for the research community. In early 2011, the Office of Population Genomics issued NOT-HG-11-001 and NOT-HG-11-009, "Notice of Availability of Administrative Supplements for the Addition of Standard Measures to Population-Based Genomic Research: The PhenX Toolkit."

Supplemental funds were provided to seven investigators to incorporate PhenX measures in a variety of epidemiological and population-based genomic studies. Although these projects span a variety of research domains, there is significant overlap in the PhenX measures selected, providing the potential for combined data analyses to address hypotheses of common interest to the group.
