Hematologists

Hematologists are physicians that study, diagnose, and treat blood disorders. Some of the most common blood disorders include anemia and blood clots. Hematologist may also care for patients with certain cancers, genetic diseases, or illnesses that can result from hospitalization for other conditions. Hematology requires critical thinking and problem solving skills, and hematologists diagnose and treat complicated medical cases and design treatment plans for their patients. From identifying a genetic factor that increases ones risk of blood clots, to caring for a child with leukemia, to recommending a course of treatment for a patient with sickle cell anemia, hematologists face a variety of challenging cases.
