Sample ELSI Applications and Summary Statements
The grants listed below are examples of well-written applications that demonstrate excellent grantsmanship and that collectively represent a variety of grant mechanisms and research methodologies common to ethical, legal and social implications (ELSI) research. Each application includes an example letter of support, provided with the permission of the letter's author, and samples of biosketches in the Summer 2016 NIH format.
Disclaimer
All applications and summary statements have been redacted to remove personal information. In addition, biosketches and letters of support (apart from those separately provided) have been removed to protect the privacy of co-investigators and collaborators. Please note that these applications are examples only and should not be construed as templates for preparing a grant application. There are many different approaches to developing a successful NIH grant application. NIH grant formats or rules may have changed since these applications were prepared; therefore, applicants should always follow the application format instructions included in the funding announcement. We hope to add examples of applications submitted under other funding mechanisms in the future. The content of these applications is copyrighted. You may use the content only for nonprofit educational purposes and only if the document remains unchanged and the PI, the grantee organization, and the NHGRI are credited. All documents are in PDF format.
We are indebted to the contributing investigators for their willingness to share their outstanding research applications and summary statements with the broader research community.
