Biography

Sangeetha Raghavan recently joined NHGRI as a Senior Licensing and Patenting Manager. She is a technology transfer professional with experience in evaluating technologies in wide ranging areas of biologics, diagnostics, drug delivery, therapeutics, medical devices, plant varieties, small molecules and software. Her experience includes assessing technologies for their patentability and commercial viability, negotiating a variety of intellectual property agreements, and marketing technologies to facilitate the transfer of such technologies from the lab to the marketplace. Her diverse educational background includes a graduate degree in Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA), both from the University of Maryland system. Ms. Raghavan is also a registered patent agent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Sangeetha’s technology transfer career began at the University of Maryland’s technology transfer office in 2008 where she worked as a Technology Assistant and thereafter as a Life Science Technology Licensing Associate in 2011. She then transitioned to the role of Senior Licensing Associate at Children’s National Medical Center’s (Washington, D.C.) Innovation Ventures in 2017 where among other accomplishments she co-developed a technology evaluation system that is used to report to the hospital’s Intellectual Property Committee.

As part of her efforts to commercialize technologies at Children’s, Ms. Raghavan also served as a primary liaison between Innovation Ventures and external Entrepreneurs-in-Residence comprising of industry experts. Her business development and marketing efforts led to licensing discussions with top biotech and medical device companies both at University of Maryland and Children’s National. Sangeetha has also served as an independent NSF SBIR/STTR proposal reviewer for medical devices, diagnostic and medical imaging technologies. When Sangeetha is not engaged in technology transfer activities, Sangeetha loves to cook, read and spend time with her family.
