NHGRI Funding Opportunities: Research

On October 9, 2015, NHGRI published a plan for how it will implement the NIH Genomic Data Sharing Policy. This plan covers all NHGRI funded projects. Details can be found at: http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-HG-15-038.html.

On February 10, 2011, Nature published the NHGRI Strategic Plan for the future of human genome research called:
"Charting a course for genomic medicine from base pairs to bedside" PDF file

In response to the Plan, National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) encourages individuals interested in submitting applications relevant to Technology and Methods Development for Genomics, Population Genomics and Genomic Medicine to submit their applications using the following Funding Opportunity Announcements:

  • NIH Research Project Grant (Parent R01)
    PA-16-160 [grants.nih.gov]
  • NIH Exploratory/Developmental Research Grant Program ( Parent R21)
    PA-16-161 [grants.nih.gov]
  • NIH Small Research Grant Program (Parent R03)
    PA-16-162 [grants.nih.gov]

The research topics described in the funding opportunity announcement listed below are still of interest to NHGRI:

  • Technology and Methods Development for Genomics, Population Genomics and ELSI
    PA-07-458 [grants.nih.gov]

If you are considering submitting an application, please contact NHGRI staff during the concept development phase of your application. This makes it more likely that your proposed research will be appropriate for NHGRI's research mission. The contact information for the NHGRI staff can be found here: www.genome.gov/27552836/NHGRI-Research-Funding-Divisions.
