Biography

Dr. Pazin joined the National Human Genome Research Institute's NHGRI's Extramural Research Program in 2011. Mike is part of the NHGRI team overseeing the ENCODE project, generating an Encyclopedia of DNA Elements from the human and mouse genomes, as well as the Non-Coding Variants (NoVa) program. Mike is part of the Common Fund working group for the 4D Nucleome (4DN) program. He manages a portfolio of grants in functional genomics. He has worked on the NHGRI Data Access Committee, Common Fund Epigenomics, modENCODE, and the Genomics of Gene Regulation (GGR).

Prior to joining NHGRI, Dr. Pazin was a principal investigator conducting research on the role of chromatin remodeling in gene regulation, at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School and the National Institute on Aging. This research was performed using cell-free (biochemical) assays and cell-based (single-gene and genomic) assays using T helper cells and neurons as model systems. He received his B.S. in chemistry from MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts, his Ph.D. in cell biology from University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and completed postdoctoral training at University of California, San Diego (UCSD).
