NHGRI is seeking candidates for the Chief of our Scientific Review Branch (SRB) in the Division of Extramural Operations (DEO). The SRO will be responsible for conducting and managing initial peer review for research, career development and training applications assigned to NHGRI.

Position Description

The Chief of NHGRI's Scientific Review Branch (SRB) in the Division of Extramural Operations (DEO) will lead an experienced and collaborative team of four scientific review officers and two program specialists, responsible for conducting and managing initial peer review for research, career development and training applications. NHGRI provides a flexible, friendly, and dynamic environment, supporting cutting edge innovation in all aspects of genomics research. 

Ideal candidates will serve as collaborative leaders, both in a supervisory role for SRB, as well as in partnership with other members of the NHGRI Division of Extramural Operations (DEO) and Extramural Research Program (ERP) leadership.

The official series and grade for this position is GS-601-15 (Supervisory Health Science Administrator, Scientific Review Officer). The position is located in Montgomery County, MD.

Qualifications

Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, with expertise in the policies and processes supporting NIH scientific peer review. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to effectively manage the peer review of applications across a broad range of research topics related to genomics and to lead special emphasis panels comprised of diverse groups of scientific experts with different research backgrounds.

Salaries and Benefits
