Biography

Dr. Doumatey is currently a Staff Scientist at the Center for Research on Genomics and Global Health (CRGGH), part of National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Dr. Doumatey received her Bachelor’s and Master’s from the Department of Biochemistry, at the University Claude Bernard, Lyon, France with interests in Microbiology and Cellular and Molecular Endocrinology.   During and after her Master’s, she trained and acquired several technical skills across different industries mainly research institution (INSERM, Lyon), clinical and medical laboratory, and vaccine production (Institute Pasteur-Merieux- Connaught, Marcy-l ’Etoile).  After completing a graduate certificate in quality assurance and quality control at the school of pharmacy, University Claude Bernard, Lyon, France in 1999, she relocated in Washington D.C. area where she received her PhD in Medical Microbiology from Howard University.

She has conducted research on genetic epidemiology of metabolic disorders especially obesity and obesity-related traits in populations of African ancestry. One of her research interests is to understand the involvement of inflammatory markers/ adipokines and lipids in the development of obesity co-morbidities. She has used different strategies to study the complex molecular basis of metabolic disorders including adipokine profiling, whole genome gene expression profiling, genome-wide association studies, proteomics, and whole exome sequencing (WES). She has authored, and co-authored numerous research manuscripts and I has recently developed interest in a subtype of obesity: the metabolically healthy obesity (MHO) and microbiome in health and diseases.
